New Mobile Health Unit for Alcoutim's rural areas

doctorFor those living our east, the new Alcoutim Mobile Health Unit will be doing the rounds, including stops in Giões and Pereiro, bringing relief to the sick.

The National Health Service aims to bring health professionals and patients together without the need for travel, often at times that do not dovetail with a scanty public transport system.

Giões will have the new Mobile Health Unit every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. and Pereiro, every Monday at 2:00 p.m.

At the same time, the Mobile Health Unit will cover various of the localities in the Alcoutim municipality, providing primary health care and being especially focused on prevention and health surveillance.

The unit staff will run medical consultations in people’s homes and will provide nursing care to those with difficulty in accessing health centers.

The mayor of Alcoutim, Osvaldo Gonçalves, says the deal with the regional health authority means a far better service for his flock. The initiative is a result of the mayor’s existing drive to ensure health care is available to all, especially those in the more remote areas for which he is responsible.

The mobile unit staff will be able to carry out many medical services that, until now, were only available at health centres.

As the Giões and Pereiro health outposts were closed, the mayor says that equality and access to healthcare has been restored.
