Violent criminals arrrested in Olhão

pspA nasty spate of violent robberies in Olhão has been stopped after the Special Security Police identified and moved in on various suspects.

The Police caught one ringleader, a 34-year-old Portuguese man who already has served time for violent and serious crimes. He has been remanded in custody until his trial.

Following an extremely violent robbery of a householder in her 60s, a PSP patrol in Olhão intercepted, almost in flagrante delicto, the two women suspected of carrying out the crime. Both immediately were arrested and the Police recovered €200 and other stolen items from the vicious robbery.

On Thursday, continuing the war on drugs, the PSP and a crack Rapid Intervention Team from Faro joined forces to execute two search warrants.

This operation resulted in the seizure of cash, cocaine and various stolen items. An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of involved in the supply of drugs directly to consumers.

"With this police operation, the Faro District Command believes it has dealt a severe blow to those involved in crime, reinforcing public safety for the city's community and visitors," read the PSP statement.

Hmm .... It sounds impressive but which branch of Portugal's police - if any - is in charge of the Special Security Police? It would be a shock to discover that this is the PIDE re-born.
