The Algarve’s cuisine and its wines aim to be the main attraction to the region's stand at the Lisbon Tourism Fair taking place between 12th and 16th of March in Lisbon.
Cooking demonstrations are planned from on-site chefs offering tastings to passers by. This is part of a new message from the Algarve Tourist Board to show that tourists "can also be captivated by the belly."
There will be three sessions devoted to the promotion of regional cuisine under the heading of the Mediterranean diet which recently has been classified by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage item.
Bread, olive oil, wines, sweets and dried fruits will be on offer alongside special delicacies prepared by chefs from Suites Alba Resort, Vilalara Thalassa Resort and Eira do Mel who will explain to the public the richness of these and other products that make up the Mediterranean diet.
The Algarve’s wines will be opened for action to illustrate the joys of the region’s new Wine Route, in partnership with the Wine Commission of the Algarve.
The promotional website for the Algarve has been updated by adding a multilingual tool to www.visitalgarve.pt and making it tablet and smartphone friendly. The Algarve Wine Guide is being relaunched with more producers and wines listed
The 400 m2 stand has room for displays and promotional material from all the Algarve’s council areas under the heading 'Algarve Calls’ alongside 20 trade exhibitors who will be selling holiday packages at prices of up to 40% off.
"From a business perspective our presence at the exhibition is essential to make holidays seem even more desirable. We hope thousands of people will visit the Algarve stand to learn about the most important tourist destination in the country," according to the chairman of the Algarve’s tourism board, Desiderio Silva.
