Portugal’s airports operator, the French-owned company, ANA, has asks passengers to arrive two to three hours before their scheduled flight time at Lisbon airport over the Christmas holiday period.
ANA issued the warning to passengers, explaining that, "the holiday season is traditionally a period of peak traffic at Portuguese airports, namely at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon," while not alluding to the planned strikes affecting services.
Christmas and New Year delays are predicted at all of Portugal’s airports after strike days were advised earlier this month by the union representing Foreigners and Borders Service staff.
This action plans to delay passengers passing through passport control and may affect all of Portugal's airports
At the same time, workers at two private security companies have chosen the Christmas period to go on strike, further delaying the timely throughput of passengers.
"To avoid delays, ANA Aeroportos de Portugal appeals to passengers with flights from Lisbon airport to arrive as early as possible on 23, 27, 28 and 29 December and 2 and 7 January, the dates with higher traffic pressure in the coming days," suggests the helpful notice.
