Mystery corpse found in rocks at Ponta Ruiva, Vila do Bispo

INEM125A body of a woman was found on Thursday afternoon at the base of a cliff at the popular Ponta Ruiva beach area in the Vila do Bispo municipality.

According to a source at Faro's District Relief Operations Centre, an alert was received at around 3pm after the corpse was spotted.

The Captain of the Port of Lagos, Conceição Duarte, told news agency Lusa, that the body was in the rocks at the base of the 40-metre high cliff and was hard to get to.

Captain Duarte said that the circumstances of the woman’s death are unknown and that the case had been passed to the Judicial Police for investigation.

The body of the woman, who was around 30-years old, was retrieved by Vila do Bispo Bombeiros with the support of the National Medical Emergency Institute, the Maritime Police and the GNR.

Why is it that when something tragic happens to a non nationals in Portugal, there are some people who continually target local people to blame for the tragedy.

Has anyone any update on the owner of the clump of hair found in the deceased New Zealanders clenched fist? Did the police follow up on feedback from relatives and neighbours of known yobs suddenly having their heads shaved and wearing hats? To hide the missing clump? Just yet another 'Contra os bretoes' to add to the lengthy list.

If this investigation parallels that of the recent investigation of the New Zealand and Brit woman's Algarve cliff fall wherein only the beach cleaner was interviewed then this investigation should be already provisionally archived. Only the comments of whoever found her needed, then the report will be formally archived on the shelves. Bad for Algarve tourism!
The McCann parents fought hard to get beyond the 2007 provisional archiving; just a day or so afterwards, of the supposed hunt for their missing Madeleine and keep the search alive. Which made them arguidos for not following the script which was that they go back to the UK immediately; keep quiet and await news. Unaware, as with the New Zealand parents, that the search for their infant daughter was already as good as over.
