Inflation stable in Portugal

fruitInflation in Portugal rose by 0.1% in January, below the eurozone’s average of 0.8%.

Portugal’s average inflation rate over the last year to January 2014 was 0.4%.

The country had the one of the lowest inflation rates in the single currency region, coming in as the fourth lowest after Cyprus, Greece and Slovakia. Negative annual rates were recorded in Cyprus and Greece.

The highest annual rates were experienced in the UK with 1.9%.

For the region as a whole, prices were up on tobacco and electricity as well as on eggs, milk, and cheese. The greatest downward impacts came from fuel for transport, telecommunications, and heating oil.
