A fisherman slipped off the rocks on Sunday morning at Barriga beach, Vila do Bispo.
According to the Faro District Relief Operations Centre, the alert for the 47-year-old Dutch national alert was given at 08:26 this morning and emergency services rushed to the area to try and locate him.
According to the National Maritime Authority, a body later was spotted by the rocks by personnel searching from the cliffs.
The fisherman was with two friends at the ‘pesqueiro dos Caixões’ area when he slipped and fell to the sea.
The searches involved the Marine Police, GNR, Bombeiros, supported by eight vehicles, as well as an EH-101 helicopter from the Portuguese Air Force and a boat from the Portuguese Navy, 'NRP Hydra.'
