General crime and violent crime declined in the Algarve in 2018, according to data released on January 29.
Despite a scarcity of resources available to the the Algarve region’s National Republican Guard (GNR), reported crime was down, but not by much.
Figures announced by Commander Joaquim Crasto, showed 13,657 crimes had been logged last year, down 171 on the year before.
Violent crimes were down from 495 in 2017, to 449 crimes recorded last year and crimes involving property also reduced.
Despite this pleasing downward trend, Commander Crasto did take issue with the lack of resources available to his men, a situation that the Minister of Internal Administration has to agree with.
