A valuable 17th century Flemish painting is to exhibited at the Faro Municipal Museum, from February 19th at 6:00 p.m.
'The Tower of Babel' is the first exhibit on loan in the Algarve from Novo Banco.
The opening ceremony will be attended by the Faro's mayor, Rogério Bacalhau, the top dog at Novo Banco, António Ramalho, and the director of the municipal museum, Marco Lopes.
The opportunity for the public to enjoy Novo Banco's treasures comes as a result of a deal with the government to distribute some of the bank's art in national museums.
In the last year, of the 98 works available to be loaned , 22 have been sent to national and municipal museums. Faro Museum staff are the happy recipients of the first work lent in the Algarve, namely the painting 'The Tower of Babel,' dated from the 17th century and of the Flemish school.
"The valuable seventeenth-century work will become part of the old master's room in the municipal museum and will joing other paintings of religious themes, enriching a collection that reveals different schools and artistic styles," said museum officials.
