BIC suspends debt recovery actions against former Alisuper workers

alisuperBIC bank has announced that it will suspend debt recovery action against the former workers of Alicoop and is suspending all planned court actions. The 90-day cease fire should allow a 'clarification' of thesituation.

BIC management met three workers’ representatives, Paulo Martins, Luís Alves and Sérgio Catarino, and a compromise, of sorts, was announced.

The Terra Ruiva newspaper, based in São Bartolomeu de Messines where around 100 former Alicoop-Alisuper workers live, carried news of a workers’ protest on February 26th in Lisbon protesting about the bank’s activities which should not be allowed under the court-agreed insolvency package.

Silves Council stated that "Alicoop, later Grupo Nogueira which bought the business, took responsibility for the payment of the debts, a guarantee that was enshrined in the Insolvency Plan agreed in the Judicial Court of Silves and which was ratified on March 13, 2012."

BIC has been harrying the workers ever since, taking individuals to court for the recovery of debts, despite the original court agreement stating otherwise.

90 days until 'clarified'?! Pardon me? What can any bank be thinking of in holding the unpaid workers liable for the debits and mismanagement of their employer? Am I missing something here?
