Bible-bashing Judge moved from domestic violence cases

justiceA Judge at the Court of Appeal in Porto, heavily criticised for his demeaning verbal attacks on women, has been transferred to a civil section of the court so he won’t have to decide on domestic violence cases.

This is just as well as a recent appeal catapulted the judge into the headline after he cited the Bible and the Portuguese Penal Code of 1886 which allows for little more than a symbolic penalty even if a husband kills his adulterous wife.

Neto de Moura’s judgment in October 2017 warned that "there are societies in which the adulterous woman is stoned to death" and that adultery of the woman is "a very serious attack on the honour and dignity of the man," and that “in the Bible, we can read that an adulterous woman should be punished with death.”

Hence, the news that the judge will be nowhere cases involving domestic violence will be welcomed by all.

The president of the superior court, Nuno Ataíde das Neves, decided to move the judge sideways, which he accepted under the reason of ‘convenience of service.’

Neto de Moura now is busy with his own lawyer as he intends to sue everyone that made fun of him or called him a judicial dinosaur, which clearly he is, claiming his ‘professional honour’ has been tainted. It helps that the judge, due to his position, does not have the inconvenience of having to pay legal costs.

The comedian Ricardo Araújo Pereira and Bruno Nogueira, the Left Bloc MP, Mariana Mortágua, and commentators Joana Amaral Dias and Manuel Rodrigues are the primary targets of this ill fated legal move.

Marta,
Don't confuse the terrible behaviour of just one judge, it doesn't represent the entire judicial system in Portugal which good.

The government, judicial system and police are exposed here often for their injustices and corruption, albeit with little result. Basically the cornerstone of a healthy democracy is flawed here. This judge is just another example of Portugal's warped hierarchy.

This disturbing individual should not be part of any judicial system, in any country. How worrying that he has not been Retired !

As Peter Booker says ... This man is a danger to society and brings the rule of law into disrepute. How does he escape the missing registration prosecution and why was that other judge not disciplined having set the fine? This makes it so clear that the Salazar era routine of just rubber stamping in court a judgement that had already been made out of it is still the routine in Portugal. No wonder 4 out of 5 Portuguese do not trust their Judicial system - surely for us EU foreigners, 5 out of 5!

He needs to be removed from all duties immediately, he is unworthy of this position.

This man was stopped by the police and fined because he had no registration plates on his car. He pursued his persecutors, and the policeman who stopped him then faced a fine of €9000. This man is a danger to society and brings the rule of law into disrepute. I agree with Laurinda that women will always feel that they cannot get a fair deal from his judgements. He is therefore not able to perform his judicial duties satisfactorily, and should either resign or be sacked.

This is not a result the EU can be proud of. How did this clown Neto de Moura ever remain in the judiciary - when every one of his previous judgements had a prosecutor or assistant judge sitting alongside him and lawyers in attendance. Who, if female, found nothing wrong or dared not speak out. Only the making public of his idiotic "spiked clubbing" judgement finally got him noticed. Yet a disciplinary panel was tied with 7 judges seeing nothing wrong with his judgements until the casting vote!
Read the current Der Spiegel where the Footie Leaks Portuguese, Pinto, is desperate not to be extradited back from Hungary to his homeland as he knows - even in the 21st Century, that he will not get a fair trial in Portugal when up against the Portuguese Football Mafia.

Fine, that's one solution ... but what will happen in each case in which one of the parties is a women? How will he handle a case?

This guy does not deserve to be in the judiciary in such a position of power ... end of the story.
