Ryainair agrees peace deal with pilots based in Portugal

ryanair1Ryanair's management said on Tuesday, April 2nd, that its pilots based in Portugal have voted for a four year labour agreement, taking another step to head off the risk of further strikes affecting passengers over summer season.

The pay and conditions agreement was negotiated between Ryanair and the pilots union, SPAC, to cover the airline's directly employed pilots based in the country.

Ryanair has suffered from badly handled labour relations since it bowed to pressure early last year and formally recognised unions for the first time.

The airline said last October that it had agreed with its pilots based in Portugal on seniority and home base issues, hoping at that time that a damaging series of strikes would be halted.

The Portuguese deal, covering leave allocation and promotion, has allowed talks with SPAC on a full labour agreement.
