A cargo of logs, being carried by a truck along the A22 between Portimão and Lagoa on the A22 motorway, caught fire on Easter Monday afternoon.
The motorway was closed to traffic as emergency services sprang into action.
The fire was confined to the very read of the load and was soon put out, saving most of the cargo.
Portimão’s municipal water and waste company was on hand to use one of its big yellow diggers to remove the logs that had ended up across the carriageway.
Near Aljezur, one Portuguese national and three Germans were injured on Monday afternoon, in a collision between two cars near Rogil on the EN120. The accident closed the road and one of the injured was taken to Portimão hospital.
