10,000 visitors expected at Albufeira wine show

lagoaAlbufeira’s wine show, billed as the third largest in the country, boasts over 100 exhibitors this year.

The event, which is now in its tenth year, has the approval of the Confraria Bacchus and is being set up by the local Council.

On the first weekend of May, between Friday and Sunday, in the Espaço Multiusos de Albufeira, around 900 wine labels will be on show from producers all around the country and the Council estimates 10,000 visitors over the three days.

"This is recognised as the largest wine show south of the Tagus and for the producers, represents an opportunity to make their wines known. With this show we have been putting the Algarve on the map for wine lovers and have reinforced the quality of our regional wines as an engine of economic development," explained Carlos Oliveira, head of the Confraria Bacchus de Albufeira.

This year, for each glass of wine or portion of chicken sold, one euro will be donated to charities involved in the aftermath of the Mozambique cyclone disaster.

In addition to wine tasting, visitors can participate in workshops, attend the presentation of the Algarve Wine Route and see show cooking demonstrations.
More than twenty Algarve producers will be on show, Adega do Cantor, Quinta do Canhoto and Quinta da Malaca.

"The origin of wine in Portugal was the Algarve, where wines are distinguished by contact with the sea breeze. The Algarve’s wine is affirming itself for quality, combining the destination of sun and sea with gastronomy and creating an alternative itinerary for wine lovers. New producers, with new proposals for wines, are a trend that we have been following and the market already has whites and rosés of great quality produced in the Algarve," added Carlos Oliveira.
