portimaoThe Public Security Police has arrested and held a 21-year-old man on suspicion of being involved in several thefts in Portimão and the surrounding area.

An investigation had been going on over the past four months and arrests have now been made of “a criminal gang composed of five suspects suspected of about two dozen thefts, namely in garages and domestic properties, of motorcycles and bicycles."

Two home searches were carried out by the Police and several stolen bikes were seized and now can be returned to their owners.

The gang members were identified and made official suspects.

This group members, aged between 17 and 21 years old, were led by two 21-year-olds.

One of the suspects had been arrested in March this year and, after being presented to a Criminal Investigation Judge, was ordered to be held in custody while awaiting trial.

Repeat offenders? Makes a mockery of the law system. Carry on stealing Portugal. From top to bottom.

Motorcycle insurance in northern Europe encourages chipping the bike to help track them if stolen ... is this not done in Portugal? Or - as with tracking mobile phones to and from crime sites - do Portuguese Police not use the technology; seeing it as too effective at invading the criminals right to privacy ?
