The National Gallery was a close second, also enticing more than six million people.
Perhaps not surprisingly, attractions in the capital made up 12 of the most popular sites in the UK. London was boosted by a 12% rise in the number of visitors.
The Natural History Museum was the third most popular attraction, followed by the Tate Modern, despite an 8% drop in visitor numbers over 2012.
The Science Museum and the V&A followed, both accruing more than 3 million visitors over the year.
The National Museum of Scotland, in Edinburgh, was the most popular attraction outside of London, welcoming 1.77m people.
