Electricity bills in Portugal are the most expensive in the EU

edpPylonMore than half of Portuguese electricity bills are for taxes and fees.

The country leads the EU ranking of prices when adjusted for purchasing power.

According to data published by Eurostat, in the second half of last year, domestic consumers in Portugal paid €0.229 per kWh of electricity, the highest level in the EU, measured in purchasing power which eliminates differences in prices between countries.

The high level of taxes is one of the main reasons why the Portuguese pay the most in the EU, with 55% going in taxes.

In Denmark alone, the tax burden is higher than the Portuguese, accounting for 64% of the price - in Germany the burden of taxes and duties is also more than half of that, while the European average is just over one-third at 37%.

Why this trumpeting a few months ago that Portugal had lasted a day entirely on renewable electricity ? With EU subsidies paying for much of the expense of wind and solar farms who is trousering so much of the cost of the supply ? DCIAP ... get stuck in lads; chop chop.

Today we read that Britain went a whole day without using coalfired electricity,.
When you read the small print. .... less than 5% of Britains electricity is produced in this way.

A little misleading as Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Spain and Ireland all pay more per kW than Portugal and the article is about purchasing power. Denmark is the dearest for electricity at €0.3123 per kW.

Misleading is a very popular activity with some comment writers on ADN.
However, it's always best to educate these misleaders, they might even learn something new from this.

The real outrage is one of the poorest countries in the EU has both the highest electricity and fuel prices.

Couple that with the 600 euros a month minimum wage and you realise Portugal is still living in a feudal system.

...........................
In 1066 William the conqueror brought the feudal system to England from France, when he became king after he defeated the English army of the time.
However, the feudal system in England still remains, with 1% of the population owning 59% ofthe countries wealth.

Please explain which EU substacies were used for solar and wind energy, and as for "trousering", what ever this means ...

With the solar capability it ought to be much cheaper.

I presume you mean €0.229 per kWh. In England you might pay around 17pence including standing charge.
