The Portimão Fire Department carried out the dog rescue operation yesterday lunchtime.
The animal was trapped on a cliff near Prainha (Alvor), a situation witnessed by swimmers and the local lifeguard, who alerted the firefighters of the incident.
Five firefighters were immediately sent to the scene, and one of them descended, with the help of ropes, to roughly the middle of the cliff and in order to rescue the dog from the dangerous situation.
Counting this occurrence, the Portimão Volunteer Firefighters have totalled 49 animal rescues since the beginning of this year.
