Ryanair has decided to abandon their route running between Porto and Lisbon from the 25th of October onwards "for commercial reasons", said the airline's in a statement, ensuring that it will still continue to "operate 57 routes from Porto and 30 from Lisbon".
This information was reported today by the Jornal de Notícias, which revealed that it was no longer possible to book flights for November. "Due to commercial reasons, our connection between Porto and Lisbon will cease to operate from the 25th of October," replied the airline, originally questioned by Lusa agency.
"However, we will continue to operate 57 routes from Porto and 30 from Lisbon in the winter of 2019," countered Ryanair. The Jornal de Notícias noted that in March the company had already indicated that "the domestic Lisbon-Porto route is served by various other means, including rail and road", considering that “outbound routes are more important due to current constraints at Portela".
On the 13th of August TAP announced that by 2020 the connection from Porto to Lisbon would gain "one more daily frequency in comparison to the summer of 2019", so all is not lost for those willing to travel using this route.
This news comes as Ryanair revealed yesterday that it has reached an agreement with ANA – Airports of Portugal to keep its base in Faro, albeit on a smaller scale, as well as keeping around half of jobs, according to a statement sent to Lusa.
Thus, the airline "confirms that it has reached an agreement with ANA, the Faro airport operator, which could allow the planned closure of its base with three aircraft this winter to be cancelled," the statement revealed.
However, the company noted that the continued presence in Faro "could now only be made possible thanks to the agreement of staff based on a switch to seasonal contracts, to reflect the seasonal nature of traffic to and from the Algarve.”
