A new PCN charging station now allows for the charging of two electric vehicles simultaneously, and is located at Rua Vitoriano Rosa, next to the Algarve Outlet pharmacy.
This is the first public charging station for electric vehicles to begin operating in the city of Olhão. The installation of this equipment was possible thanks to a protocol signed between the municipality, the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) and Turismo de Portugal, within the scope of a national program with which it is intended to provide all municipalities in the country with electric-vehicle charging infrastructure.
With a power of 22 kW/socket, these two PCNs, or semi-fast chargers, will allow users to charge up to 80 percent of an electric car's battery in about an hour.
The PCN in Olhão can be used free of charge, under an agreement between the municipality and MOBI.E, the entity managing the network for electric mobility.
This free-of-charge situation should continue until the conclusion of the tender for the concession of the posts allocated to the MOBI.E network, which is expected to occur during the first half of this year.
The municipality, which is promoting several environmentally friendly initiatives, like this one, intends to install, soon, another PCN for electric vehicles on Avenida 5 de Outubro, in front of the hotel. The project is currently under execution.
MOBI.E is a public company that ensures the management of energy and financial flows resulting from the operations of the electric vehicle mobility network.
