The Food Co. store opened in Almancil on Tuesday (February 25), bringing around 7,500 British and Tesco-branded products to the Algarve.
“We were swarmed as soon as the doors opened,” store manager Lorraine Elphinstone told the Resident.
Though uncertain about exactly how many people visited the supermarket on its opening day, she revealed that its car park was “filled all day long” and that it was overall a “great day”.
The Food Co. was set up in 2019 in order “to bring the very best of the UK food market direct to Spain”, having now expanded to Portugal.
“We aim to bring the best of British to your door. Whether you’re soaking up the sun on the Costa del Sol, admiring the beautiful beaches of Ibiza, or immersing yourself in the vibrant Portuguese culture, you’re never far away from all your home comforts with The Food Co.,” the company says on its website.
The Food Co. is described as the exclusive stockist of Tesco, “ranging over 7,500 products both Tesco-branded and household favourites from the UK”.
The Food Co. in Almancil spread across an area of around 1,000sqm, is located on Avenida Duarte Pacheco and boasts a 48-space car park.
There are also customer toilets, bag-packing services and employees on hand to help carry bags to cars.
The supermarket is open every day from 9am to 9pm except on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
