The town of Alvor has been named as one of 25 emerging world destinations to visit in 2020 by Trip Advisor, the international travel platform revealed this week. The town, located in the municipality of Portimão is the only Portuguese location to enter the top 25 emerging destinations for this year, which was outlined at an award ceremony titled the “Travelers Choice Awards for Destinations”, which were divided into two categories: Trends, on the destinations that had the most positive reviews, and Emerging, which included the destinations that travellers have expressed the most interest in visiting in their future travels.
“According to the popular tourism discussion platform, emerging destinations are limited to what is highly-rated and likely to become a popular destination in the future, that is, off-the-radar destinations that travellers have “saved” on Tripadvisor, illustrated a Portimão Council spokesperson. The travel platform describes Alvor as an “old fishing village in southern Portugal that has become a popular resort. Spend a day at Praia de Alvor, or discover one of the secret coves along the coast. At night, stroll through the narrow cobbled streets of the city, sample fresh local seafood and enjoy live music in one of the many lively bars”.
