After confirming the first case of infection by Covid-19 in the municipality of Faro, the City Council have reported that "the infected individual is of Nepalese nationality, works and resides in the rural area of the municipality, and has been admitted for treatment at Faro Hospital".
Following the confirmation of this first case in the Algarve’s capital, "the Health Authority has decreed the need to keep 74 individuals, all foreign nationals, in quarantine, with whom the first infected person will have had personal and/or professional contact", explains the municipality in a press release.
For this reason, the City Council needed to provide "an adequate space for this group, which was immediately ensured by providing, in conjunction with the João de Deus School Group, the Sports Pavilion of Santo António do Alto School.”
Trying to respond fully to this deeming quarantine requirement, the Municipality and the School Group set up "a logistical operation that allows these citizens to be properly accommodated, in dignified conditions, for the next 14 days, in which they are being supported by the Moto Clube de Faro, Sapadores Firefighters, the Volunteer Firefighters of “Cruz Lusa”, and the Portuguese Red Cross”
The Council highlights that all "aspects related to the clinical treatment of these individuals are and will be treated by the Health Authorities, and any questions related to this should be directed to the same entities". The Mayor, Rogério Bacalhau, has made an appeal "to the tranquillity of the entire population, requesting full compliance with the safety and prevention recommendations of the Directorate-General for Health, in particular those regarding social distancing and personal hygiene standards".
