The number of Covid-19 cases in the Algarve rose to 46 this Tuesday, four more than those registered yesterday. In Alentejo, there is was one more case, bringing the total to 6.
Today, the number of infected people at the national level rose by 302, to 2362. Of the sick people, 203 are hospitalized, 48 of those are in intensive care. One of which is an Algarvian priest who is in the hospital in Faro.
There are also 29 national deaths, six more than yesterday. None of the new deaths were registered either in the Algarve or in the Alentejo. And on a positive note, there are already 22 people recovered. So far it seems that Portugal’s early and strict measures have been effective in reducing the spread of the virus to a greater extent than a number of other European countries.
In all, since the outbreak began, there are also 1783 people awaiting laboratory results and 11842 under active surveillance. Almost 80% of deaths associated with the virus in Portugal are of people aged 70 or over, according to the new epidemiological bulletin released by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
