The Government is set to adopt the same travel restrictions that were in force at Easter for the long weekend of the 1st of May.
Between the 1st and rd3 May it will be prohibited to travel between municipalities, announced Prime Minister António Costa, this Friday. Costa spoke to journalists after meeting with representatives of the trade and services sectors, and also with the leader of the Islamic community in Portugal, Abdul Vakil, after being asked about the long weekend between 1 and 3 May.
"For this weekend, the Government will enact a ban on travel between municipalities, just as it happened during the Easter period," said the prime minister.
During the Easter period, the Government decided that, between Thursday, April 9, and Monday, April 13, public trips were limited to the municipalities of permanent residence. In the case of the commemoration of Labour Day, next Friday, António Costa said that "it will be a different 1st of May for unions than we’ve seen in the past".
