Opening of border between Algarve and Andalusia to be marked with ceremony tomorrow

71spain borderThe Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) and Turismo do Algarve are set to mark the reestablishment of the main crossing point on the border between Andalusia and the Algarve, in a ceremony that will take place tomorrow, July 1, at 12:15 pm, in the garden of the Tourist Office by the International Guadiana Bridge. The event will celebrate the opening of the border, be it via land or air.

The ceremony will be attended by Secretary of State for Fisheries and regional coordinator of the fight against COVID-19 in the Algarve, José Apolinário, the consul of Spain in the Algarve, Eduardo Serra Jorge, the consul general of Portugal in Seville, João Queirós, the president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, Francisco Serra, and the Algarve Regional Director for Agriculture and Fisheries, Pedro Monteiro. They join António Pina, president of AMAL, and João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve.

This moment marks "the end of the suspension of an exceptional and temporary measure of control of people on the borders between the two countries, which was part of the government’s plan to combat the pandemic, and is a show of good cooperation and social relations that exist between the territories", highlights Turismo do Algarve.
