Portugal's Government hides two billion euros of new cuts

seguroThe general secretary of the Socialist Party, António José Seguro, said on Saturday that the government has a "hidden agenda of cuts" in the order of "two billion euros."

"We want to stop the cuts, they should have stopped a long time ago, and we want to start the recovery of wages and pensions in Portugal. Instead, the government keeps cutting and has a hidden agenda of about two billion euros of further cuts that is is preparing to apply after the European elections," said Seguro.

The socialist was speaking at the debate "A New Direction for Health" held on Saturday in Oporto, where took the opportunity to comment on a news article which referred to concealed cuts from the Pedro Passos Coelho coalition government.

"Even today a newspaper realises that the government is preparing to revise the pay scales of civil servants, depriving them more than 5% in 2015. We need to stop the cuts. This is no way to govern a country," said socialist leader.
