Traffic queues mark the start of travel limitations between municipalities

TRAFFIC QUEUES MARK THE START OF TRAVEL LIMITATIONS BETWEEN MUNICIPALITIESPatrolling, awareness and inspection measures are causing queues across the country since the temporary limitation of circulation between municipalities came in to force at midnight last night.

The PSP and GNR have started patrolling, awareness and inspection operations across the country to ensure the current rules for containing the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2.

With the limitations of movement between municipalities, queuing took place across the country. In the Algarve, kilometers of traffi queues marked the points where the authorities' actions were taking place, causing traffic congestion.

A driver published some videos on his Facebook page, showing the long lines formed on the EN 125, next to Sumol, towards Faro. The authorities were inspecting all drivers going in this direction, questioning them about the reason for the trip.

Also on the A22, dozens of vehicles werethe stop / start to leave Via do Infante, near the Faro junction.

As well as limitation of circulation, the PSP and GNR operations will also be checking non-compliance or disrespect for other measures such as wearing a mask on the street and on public transport, drinking alcohol on the public road and gatherings of more than five people.

Circulation outside the municipality of residence will be limited, between 00:00 on Friday 30 October and 06:00 on  Tuesday 03 November.

Circulation between municipalities is prohibited unless you have a specific reason for the travel. As a reminder, travel to the airport to take someone to catch a flight can go ahead, providing that you have the proof of the flight to show and also keep it with you for the return journey. Of course on the return you will be travelling home and be able to provide proof of address, but it will help if you have evidence of the reason for the trip in the first place.

Appointments already made with an official body, such as a medical appointment, SEF, Finanças etc can be attended, providing you have proof of the appointment with you. If you are required to travel to work, have a document signed by your employer to state that you need to travel to your place of employment.
