At the beginning of the so-called 3rd wave of Covid-19, the number of deaths in the Algarve is growing slightly more than at the national level, although the region's hospitals are among the least overcrowded in the country.
In the last 30 days, the cumulative number of deaths by Covid-19 has increased by 50% in the Algarve region (from 56 to 84, according to DGS data), against the 46% increase in Portugal (from 5,278 to 7,701 , with 7,803 deaths to date - Source DGS).
In the municipality of Tavira, the only Algarve municipality in Extremely High Risk, the increase in deaths was 133%, against the 50% increase in the Algarve.
The first two deaths recorded in Tavira were in October and the third was recorded in November, but in the passed 30 days, 4 more deaths were recorded in Tavira, as of yesterday.
As for the two municipalities in the Algarve that recorded the highest number of deaths as of yesterday, they are Loulé and Portimão, each with 14 deaths.
Next are the municipalities of Faro and São Brás de Alportel, both with 9 deaths.
With the same number of deaths as Tavira (7), there are the municipalities of Lagos and Vila Real de Santo António.
Castro Marim municipality is the only one without deaths
So far, of the 16 municipalities in the Algarve, the only municipality that has not registered any deaths from Covid-19 is Castro Marim.
Next are the municipalities of Aljezur and Monchique, both with one death, Lagoa and Olhão, both with two deaths, and the municipalities of Alcoutim, Silves and Vila do Bispo, both with 3 deaths.
Of the 4 municipalities in the Algarve that have registered more than 1,000 infected since the beginning of the pandemic (Loulé 1,479, Faro 1,412, Portimão 1,260 and Albufeira with 1,116 accumulated cases), the municipality of Albufeira is the one that recorded the lowest number of deaths (6) by Covid -19.
