Portugal reaches five million vaccines administered

According to the communication office of the task force, the number covers mainland Portugal and the regions of the Azores and Madeira.

In the specific case of mainland Portugal, the five million vaccines administered are expected to be reached on Monday evening or Tuesday, the same source said.

In mainland Portugal, the total number of vaccines administered was, at 4:30 pm on Sunday, about 4,939,000, of which about 3,358,000 first doses and close to 1,581,000 with complete vaccination.

On Saturday, the coordinator of the task force for vaccination against Covid-19, Gouveia e Melo, said that on August 8th, 70% of the population will have had at least one dose of the vaccine.

"If everything goes well, if the vaccines arrive, so we have the vaccines that we think we have available, on August 8th, we will have 70% of the population with at least one dose," said Vice Admiral Gouveia e Melo, in Leiria.

In Portugal, 17,017 people have died from 845,224 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.
