Algarve cases double in 24 hours, but still remains below national average

ALGARVE CASES DOUBLE IN 24 HOURS, BUT STILL REMAINS BELOW NATIONAL AVERAGEThe Algarve goes from 16 to 30 new cases, according to the records of the last 24 hours oprovided by the DGS. While the national increase was around 7% (573 to 612), the Algarve region registers almost double the number of new cases, but still does not surpass the national average.

Portugal registered two deaths associated with Covid-19 and 612 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours, more than half in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, says information released today by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

According to today's epidemiological bulletin, the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley continues to have the most new confirmed cases, with 340 of the 612 registered in the period under review.

The Algarve region registered another 30 cases - 22,423 since March of last year - and remained at 363 deaths that were registered yesterday.

As for the Alentejo, it counted, in the last 24 hours, 19 more cases (there are 30,276 in total) and stayed at 971 fatalities. 

Regarding hospital admissions, data from the DGS indicate that there was no change in relation to the previous day, that is, 265 patients remain hospitalised in Portugal. In the intensive care units (ICU), there are 52 patients, one more patient compared to the day before.

Data released by the DGS also show that 353 more cases are active, giving a total of 23,715, and that 257 people were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, increasing the national total to 811,897 recovered.
