Portuguese tourism expected to recover by 2023

PORTUGUESE TOURISM EXPECTED TO RECOVER BY 2023At a presentation of the “Reactivate tourism. Build the future” programme in Ponta Delgada, the president of Portugal’s tourist board, Luís Araújo has said that tourism in Portugal should reach pre-pandemic levels of 2019 by 2023.

Luís Araújo said that this goal is perfectly possible, although very subject to the connectivity and mobility conditions of the coming years. Current indicators show “huge demand” for the destination, the president of Turismo de Portugal highlighted.

Within the current plan, Portugal’s tourism sector is forecasted to reach €27 billion in revenue in 2027. This programme is based on Building the Future, Supporting Business, Generating Business and Fostering Safety.

In total, €6.11 billion will be allocated to the sector, of which €4.07 billion will be provided by the country’s development bank, known as Banco Português de Fomento. Of the total pot, around €3 billion of the total allocation will go to companies, while the 'building the future' component will be given €2.5 billion.
