Covid-19 'Task Force' is disbanded

Photo by Tiago Petinga- COVID-19 'TASK FORCE' IS DISBANDEDThis morning, the Government have announced the end of the 'task force' of vaccination against Covid-19, on a visit by Prime Minister António Costa and Health Minister Marta Temido to the task force headquarters in Oeiras.

The vaccination centres and the respective planning will remain active with from eight to nine people administering vaccines, but the process will no longer be led by Vice Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo.

On February 3rd, Gouveia e Melo took over the coordination of the vaccination task force - created in November 2020 - after Francisco Ramos's resignation.

At a time when 85% of the population is immunised, despite the end of the work of the team that coordinated the vaccination against Covid-19 in Portugal, the vaccination centres will remain active to administer doses to those who have not yet attended to complete the vaccination schedule (people who have recovered or who have not yet taken the second inoculation), and also administer the third dose to people eligible to do so.

Regarding the administration of the third dose 'booster', the possibility of self-scheduling will not be available: users will be summoned by phone, message or letter.

As for flu vaccination, it will continue to take place in health centres and pharmacies, but it will also be available at Covid-19 centres “soon”.
