A 49-year-old teacher who received a suspended sentence of 5 years by the Penafiel Court, is prohibited from any work involving minors for a period of five years. However, the measure only comes into execution after the decision becomes final, which has not happened yet.
The teacher left school after the event, but continued to teach at another educational establishment in Vila Real. According to "Jornal de Notícias", the teacher used his authority to commit 15 crimes of sexual abuse of minors: the victims are two students aged nine and 12 years old.
The crimes took place in the 2014/2015 school year at a school in Penafiel, but the complaint was only formalised five years after the minors filed a complaint with the school officials.
The victims will receive compensation of 1700 and 1400 euros, while the teacher will be required to carry out a clinical evaluation in the area of sexuality.
