A truck with essential goods, intended to support the millions of war refugees who are on the border between Ukraine and Poland, left Loulé yesterday.
The local community of Loulé came together, with associations, schools, churches, companies and the public joining together to collect the goods that will meet some of the refugees needs, most of whom are fleeing to the West.
The large truck, loaded with goods, will now cover nearly 4,000 kilometres and will hopefully reach Poland next Tuesday.
“The material will then be delivered to the Polish association Fundacja Caietanus, a non-governmental non-profit organization based in Poland, which will distribute the material to the Ukrainian population displaced in the neighbouring country”, explained the municipality of Loulé in a statement.
There are 18 tons of products that will bring a little Portuguese solidarity to Ukrainian citizens. Food and basic necessities, baby food, medicines and first-aid products, clothing, footwear and outerwear, hygiene products and childcare materials, are all included in this shipment to help what is already considered the biggest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II.
In the next few days, a bus will arrive in Loulé with 50 war refugees, who will settle in the municipality and will be properly monitored by the municipality's social services in the integration process.
