The authorities seized more than 15,000 doses of narcotics and almost €40,000 in cash yesterday and this morning, in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo regions.
Under the GNR's Faro Territorial Command, Loulé Criminal Investigation Nucleus (NIC) have detained six men and one woman, aged between 24 and 41.
During an eight month investigation, the military found “the existence of illicit activity related to drug trafficking on a large scale, with the purpose of distribution in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo regions”, says the GNR statement, adding that “seven suspects were identified, responsible for different tasks related to a drug trafficking scheme”.
The investigative efforts culminated in a police operation, in which 13 searches were carried out at the homes of those suspected, plus six searches of vehicles, resulting in seven arrests being made in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo.
The authorities seized 6,115 doses of cocaine, 9,659 doses of hashish, 45.6 grams of MDMA, 70 doses of lime, 352.19 grams of drug cutting product, 39,026 euros in cash, several pills, five vehicles, a safe , two cameras, a monitor, an LCD television, a sound system, two extendable batons, 12 cell phones, a compressed air gun, a .22 caliber gun, eight vials of steroids, various ammunition and two precision balances.
The detainees are being held at GNR facilities, until they are presented to the Judicial Court of Faro tomorrow, April 7th.
Reinforcement of this operation was given by the entire Criminal Investigation structure and the Intervention Detachment (DI) of Faro, with the collaboration of the Public Security Police (PSP).
