Fire at Olhâo port destroyed 6 vessels

FIRE AT OLHÂO PORT DESTROYED 6 VESSELSA fire that broke out yesterday in a dry area of ​​the port of Olhão consumed six sailboats, and damaged a seventh vessel which was close by, also on land.

Speaking to news agency Lusa, a source from the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Faro said that the emergency services were alerted to the fire, which broke out in the old industrial area of ​​the port of Olhão, at 1:10 pm. The fire was brought under control by 14:41, but took another 2 hours to enter what firefighters call the aftermath phase, at 16:49.

The fire involved the attendance of 19 vehicles and 53 emergency operatives to fight the flames. 

Employees and workers were evacuated from the scene in time, meaning nobody was hurt during the incident.

The CDOS have ruled out a possible spillage of polluting materials into the water, stressing that the “boats were on land”.
