An Air Transat plane carrying 148 passengers bound for Toronto, Canada, made an emergency landing at Gago Coutinho Airport in Faro yesterday.
The alert was declared by the airport at around 12:40pm, for the emergency landing of an aircraft that reported a failure in one of the two engines.
The Airbus A321, from the Canadian company Air Transat which had taken off from Faro at 11:40am, bound for Toronto, Canada, landed safely at 1:09pm with no problems.
In view of the red alert, the highest of the defined Emergency Plans in place by Gago Coutinho Airport, all Civil Protection agents in the Faro district were mobilized, specifically all fire brigades in the region, police forces and medical services.
Lusa news agency tried to obtain information from ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, the managing body of Faro, about the incident with the Air Transat plane, but this has not been possible so far.
