From today until March 12th, the National Republican Guard (GNR) is carrying out a road inspection operation aimed at the use of seat belts and child restraint systems.
The operation, which takes place within the scope of the European Network of Traffic Police (RoadPol), aims to improve road safety and compliance with road regulations, and raise awareness in society of safer behaviour on the part of drivers and passengers, with a view to promoting road safety and the safeguarding of human lives.
The seat belt and the child restraint system are passive safety devices for the occupants of a motor vehicle, whose purpose, in the event of a road accident, is to prevent them from being thrown out of the vehicle or into the interior parts of the vehicle, even reducing the occurrence of injuries or their severity.
According to the GNR, non-use of seat belts and child restraint systems continues to reach worrying numbers, with 20,292 violations having been verified in 2022 for lack or incorrect use of seat belts and child restraint systems in vehicles.
