The GNR caught and subsequently arrested a 40 year old man for lighting a forest fire close to the Guadiana River, in Alcoutim.
After receiving the report of a fire police immediately went to the scene, where they was informed by a witness that he'd seen the arsonist and that the suspect had just left the scene.
According to the statement from the Faro Territorial Command of the GNR, “an immediate search was carried out by the police, to locate the suspect who, upon realising the police were after him, still tried to escape, leaving behind a bag containing pyrotechnic material, including three lighters used to start the fire. Police caught the man swiftly”.
The man will appear in front of the Judicial Court of Vila Real de Santo António, for sentencing.
