During a general road inspection by the GNR in Quarteira, police noticed the suspicious behaviour of a driver, drastically slowing down his vehicle then initially ignoring requests from the GNR to stop.
When the vehicle did to stop, police noticed packages visible inside, the type normally used to pack doses of narcotic product, as well as several packets of tobacco.
On inspection inside the vehice, police went on to seize various items including eight doses of heroin, 93 packs of tobacco, 129 scratch cards issued by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, 42 lighters, two backpacks, two jerricans, a robot vacuum cleaner, an electric cement mixer, a suitcase and 145 euros in cash.
The driver of the vehicle, a 23 year old man, ended up being detained for disobeying the authorities, as the vehicle he was driving was not insured.
A 37 year old man, who was in the front passenger seat of the car, has been accused of possession of the drugs, and theft. It is presumed the items were stolen, as he was unable to justify their origin.
The pair will appear in front of the Judicial Court of Loulé.
