EN267 reopened after wildfire raged in São Marcos da Serra

EN267 REOPENED AFTER WILDFIRE RAGED IN SÃO MARCOS DA SERRAThe fire that started around 15:40h yesterday, forced the EN267 from São Marcos to Monchique to be closed, as well as the Southern railway line (Lisbon-Algarve). These are now reopened.

The fire soon developed “with great intensity” in the Barranco das Veredas valley, hard to access, which was making the work of the firefighters difficult. Smoke reached the coast at Armação de Pêra.

As of 7am this morning, the fire is in conclusion, but 137 bombeiros and 40 vehicles remain deployed, to deal with any reignitions.
