Yesterday afternoon, a 31 year old man was rescued from 30 metre high rocks surrounding Caneiros beach by an Air Force helicoopter, after he was trapped there.
Emergency services, including the Navy's Maritime Search and Rescue Center, were called late afternoon yesterday when the man realised he was trapped on top of the Leixão da Gaivota rock, in front of the Praia dos Caneiros, after climbing up it for fun.
“After receiving the alert, and in coordination with the captain of the Port of Portimão, various rescue resources were used by the Shipwrecked Aid Institute and the Lagoa Fire Department,” to rescue the man, explains the Navy in a statement.
“Due to the difficulty in accessing the site, as it is a 30 metre high rock, it was necessary to engage the Portuguese Air Force helicopter, EH-101, which rescued the individual at around 9 pm, and transported him safely to Portimão Aerodrome”.
