Rapid intervention by firefighters meant that a fire that broke out near a residential area in Olhão yesteray afternoon, was extinguished swiftly, without damage or injury.
The fire on an area of vegetation and scattered trees broke out at around 2:30pm afternoon, in the João de Ourém area of Olhão.
Because the fire was close to lots of apartments and houses, several fire brigades attended, with a total of 44 crew, supported by 14 vehicles from the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão, the Cruz Lusa Fire Department of Faro, the Volunteer Fire Department of São Brás de Alportel, plus a Bombeiros aircraft.
The GNR and the Municipal Police of Olhão were also at the scene, and around an hour after it started, local residents were relieved to see that the fire was under control.
