Algarve's EN 125 bridges to be inspected

roadworksEstradas de Portugal is to carry out an inspection of the Algarve’s bridges over the EN 125 to create a calendar of work depending on which one is likely to collapse first.

The work already is underway and that "if all goes normally, within two to three weeks it will be completed," said a spokesman, adding that some bridges will require further study.

These comments may go some way to dampen the irate comments from councils to the west of Olhão which have been left out of the resurfacing and maintenance works announced yesterday.

In the statement issued today, the company explained that the current inspections are to asses the conditions not only of the Algarve’s EN 125 bridges but its viaducts, culverts, pedestrian crossings, and other non-surface elements.

The company did not say if or when the bridges and other structures will be repaired if they are dangerous, just that it is making a list.

I get it!

They condemn a bridge, close the EN125 and force everyone to pay tolls on the A22.

Watch out for civil unrest.
