A ceremony to lay the foundation stone of one of two new luxury hotels to be built in Lagos took place yesterday, with the hotels scheduled to open in 2026.
The Mercan Properties Group is reinforcing its commitment to the Algarve, starting construction of the Lagos Marina Hotel project. This tourism development will create two new hotels in the city of Lagos: the five-star Lagos Marina Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, and the four-star Hilton Garden Inn Lagos, the hotel group announced.
The statement released explains that this is an urban rehabilitation project, which represents an investment of €107.8 million, "solidifying the Canadian group's entrepreneurial footprint in the southern region of Portugal", where it already has the Hotel Califórnia Urban Beach in full operation, on Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira, and six other tourist developments under development - two hotels from the Lagos Marina Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton and the Hilton Garden Inn Lagos, the Alvor Beach Hotel, the Hotel Indigo Faro Ribeirinha, the Marriott Lagos and, also, the Hard Rock Hotel Algarve.
The construction phase, which is expected to last for around two years, will create around 150 new jobs, while the full operationalisation of the assets, which will be carried out by AHM - Ace Hospitality Management, the Group's company specializing in hotel management, is expected to generate approximately 188 permanent jobs.
The Lagos Marina Hotel will be located between the Lagos Marina and the Atlantic Ocean, and will have 180 rooms spread over 4 floors and a total area of 14,776 m2. The hotel has a restaurant and two bars, one of which is located on the terrace with an infinity pool, and a second pool on the ground floor.
The Hilton Garden Inn Lagos will have 90 rooms, 27 of which are suites with kitchenettes, in a total gross area of 7,505 m2. It will also have a bar, restaurant and a 24-hour self-service shop, as well as a gym and outdoor pool. The hotels also offer meeting spaces, as well as more than 160 parking spaces shared between them.
In Portugal since 2015, the Mercan Properties Group has already invested around 1.2 billion euros in the country, through 32 projects in the tourism and hotel sector spread across different regions of Portugal, in addition to the creation of more than 600 permanent jobs, in addition to attracting world-renowned brands in the tourism and hotel sector, such as Hilton, Marriott or IHG.
