Aljezur: Search for missing fisherman is called offSearches for the fisherman who has been missing from Bordeira beach since Saturday in Aljezur, were called off at sunset last night, without results.

The 25 year old man allegedly fell into the sea while fishing recreationally at around 2.40pm on Saturday afternoon at Bordeira beach in Aljezur, and after a day and a half of searching by sea, land and air, the search was stopped at the end of the Sunday afternoon, without the victim being found”, reported the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement.

The searches throughout the day, coordinated by the captain of the Port of Lagos, were carried out by crew members from the Sagres lifeguard station by sea, and on the land by teams from the port captaincy and the local command of the Lagos Maritime Police, the "SeaWatch" project and the Aljezur Volunteer Firefighters, supported by a drone and a Portuguese Air Force aircraft, plus friends of the victim.

Searches resumed at 7.30m this morning, Monday, by sea, land and air, with an air force vehicle. The search perimeters have been “adjusted, given the period of time that has passed” since the alert was given.

The Maritime Police's psychology office has been providing support to the missing man's family.
