After a decade of absence, the game of marbles returns to the Dr. Neves Júnior primary school in Faro, thanks to physical education teacher, Nélson Brito.
With the aim of reviving the game and offering a healthy alternative to mobile phone games, physical education teacher Snr Brito led several traditional games classes, centered on marbles. This culminated in a marbles tournament on Tuesday, which was attended by 23 students, aged between 10 and 12.
The initiative, which included the "three holes" version of the game, was supported by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, which joined the event, offering prizes to all players.
The teacher says he was surprised by the students' involvement: "The tournament exceeded expectations! For many students, it was their first experience with marbles at school. Seeing the joy and involvement with which they participated showed us the importance of reintroducing these traditional games. It was incredible to see how something so simple can have such a positive impact, away from screens and the digital world."
