São Bras awards a vote of praise to the Alerta, the volunteer forest fire alert associationThe São Bras municipal executive have awarded a vote of praise to Alerta, the forest fire alert association which, since 2016, has supported the Algarve firefighters with goods and supplies, as well as protective equipment for fighting fires.

In 2024, Alerta, made up of a group of volunteers, donated more than €6000 to the Volunteer Fire Department of São Brás de Alportel.

In 2016, the president of Alerta, Deborah Burton, had the idea of ​​using the official Civil Protection website to track forest fires in the Algarve, and publish them on a Facebook page, in a more accessible way for the population, especially foreign communities in the Algarve, to be able to follow.

This is how this association was born, and has since been dedicated to raising funds for all corporations and raising awareness of the importance of the bombeiros.

In 2019, Deborah Burton was awarded the British Empire Medal by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in recognition of her achievements in supporting local and expatriate communities in the Algarve.
