Trail of vandalism from Tavira to VRSA

smashedwindscreenIt is certain that at least 50 vehicles have been vandalised in a trail of wanton destruction between Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, according to early police estimates.

Judicial Police and GNR officers have been identifying the vehicles that were attacked overnight and are still counting...the total may be as many as 200.

Police sources admitted that in Tavira around 23 vehicles had been affected and that in Vila Real de Santo António about 20 cars had had their windscreens smashed, but that enquiries were continuing as more and more people were reporting acts of criminal damage.

There also are damaged cars in Cacela Velha and in other small villages along the eastern coastline so the total number of vehicles and cost may take a couple of days to assess.

Some residents in these areas say the number of vandalised vehicles may end up far higher than the police are admitting, perhaps as many as 200.

The authorities are still logging the damaged vehicles so the official total certainly will rise over time.

The GNR already has two suspects in custody and will release details if and when they are charged.
